Academic Career for Early Career Researchers

Career support session: pathways, teaching eligibility, and what’s expected

Are you an early career researcher and wondering what an academic career path at Lund University can look like — and what you actually need to be eligible for teaching positions? Future Faculty invites you to a focused career support session where we unpack the requirements, the system behind academic appointments, and how to plan your next steps strategically.

This is a practical session for anyone who wants clearer answers to questions like:
What counts as teaching merit? What qualifications matter most? What do committees look for? And how do you build a profile that’s “eligible” rather than “almost”?

What we’ll cover

  • Academic career paths for early career researchers (how roles connect and what typically comes next)
  • Teaching eligibility: what qualifications are required, what evidence is expected, and what “merits” really mean in practice
  • How appointments are evaluated: insights into committee perspectives and common pitfalls
  • Concrete next steps: what you can start doing now to strengthen your portfolio

Speakers

  • Prof. Anders P Håkansson — Chair of the Academic Appointments Committee
  • Helena Persson — Senior Lecturer

You’ll get the chance to hear directly from people with deep experience in academic recruitment and teaching roles — and bring your questions.
