Some traditions are worth keeping — especially the ones that bring people together. Every year around Semmeldagen, Future Faculty invites postdocs and early-career researchers to a relaxed fika with semlor (Sweden’s most iconic “research fuel” pastry). It’s our small annual ritual to create a sugar-sticked path for the things that actually matter in academia: meeting new people, strengthening existing connections, and catching up with friends and colleagues you don’t see often enough.
If you’re new at Lund, new in your group, or simply want to expand your circle beyond your corridor — this is for you. No agenda, no pressure, just good fika and easy conversation.
Why we do this every year
Because networks don’t happen by accident. They happen when there’s space to talk — across departments, disciplines, and job titles. Semmeldagen gives us a perfect excuse to slow down for one hour, say hi to someone new, and reconnect with people we already know. Think of it as community-building… with whipped cream.
