Minerva Leadership Award 2024

After a thorough review process, Future Faculty has narrowed down the number of candidates for this year’s Minerva Leadership Award 2024 to three nominees. The remaining candidates are Professor Martin Englund (Department of Clinical Sciences), Dr Laura Wisse (Department of Clinical Sciences) and Professor Pernilla Stenströ(Department of Clinical Sciences). An external committee will now decide who will receive the award, which will be announced in March 2024.

Future Faculty Photo Competition 2023 – Extension of the deadline

The deadline for submissions is extended ! New deadline: January 21st, 2024.

Future Faculty is happy to announce the 2023 Photo Competition: “Academic Oopsies: Embracing the unexpected“! This year, our photo competition aims to celebrate the human side of academic research by capturing the unexpected moments, mishaps, and untold experiences that often occur in the pursuit of knowledge. Whether it’s a lab experiment gone wrong, a coding error that led to an unexpected outcome, or a comical mishap during fieldwork, we want to see it all! This competition is an opportunity to showcase the behind the scenes of academia and foster a sense of fellowship among our research community.

The competition is open to all employees at the Medical Faculty (including PhD students and postdocs on stipend) except for the Future Faculty steering committee. 

To participate in the contest, email your photo(s) along with the description to karolina.smolag-klosowska@med.lu.se with the subject line: ” Academic Oopsies: Embracing the unexpected – [Your Name]”.

Career Strategy Workshop – January 25th

Future Faculty organizes a Career Strategy Workshop together with a professional coach on January 25th from 13:00 to 17:00 in Forum Medicum, Lund.

In this workshop you will be introduced to methods, models and principles for how you can strengthen your strategical thinking as a researcher.
We will focus on questions like:  How to know what I want and which goal to go for? How can I work more strategically towards my career goals?
Working methods include presentations, experience-sharing, individual tasks, and group discussions. The workshop requires active participation and a willingness to reflect on career issues with the other participants.

The workshop is open to all young researchers, from PhD students to more senior investigators but spaces are limited! Fika and networking are included. Register until Jan 20th here.

Survey – International researchers’ career outside academia

If you are you an early stage international researcher currently in Sweden (second-year up to PhD awarded within the last two years), you might be interested in participating in a Vinnova-supported project to map the ability of Swedish universities, to guide international researchers to a possible career outside of academia after completing research/doctoral studies.

Extended Deadline for Minerva Nominations

The nominations period for the Minerva Leadership Award 2024 is extended until 19th of November. Anyone who knows of a good role model, who leads by example and raises the bar for academic integrity, can still nominate them this week by clicking the link below and describing your reasons.

The highly esteemed Minerva prize can be awarded to anyone at the faculty (does not have to be a PI), in recognition of their great leadership qualities that align with Future Faculty’s core values: fairness, transparency and honesty.

Please note that current or former (last two years) members of the Future Faculty steering board cannot be nominated (list can be found here)

Make sure you nominate this person before the 19th of November 2023. If you have nominated someone in the previous years but they did not win, consider nominating them again!

Writing Day November 22nd

writing day

November is Academic Writing Month! AcWriMo is an international web-based event where academics encourage and challenge themselves to achieve their writing goals.

For the occasion, Future Faculty organizes a writing day in several locations at the Faculty of Medicine on November 22nd from 9:00 to 15:00.

For this day, the idea is to meet up and work together, on our own tasks. We will alternate between focused sessions and breaks with time to mingle.

You are welcome to come for all or part of the day. Fika will be provided, lunch is at your own expense.

Limited places available. Priority will be given to Future Faculty members but registration is also open to PhD students and non-members. Register here.
